About Mateete Comprehensive Seed Secondary School
From humble beginnings, Mateete Comprehensive Seed Secondary School took its first breath in 2003, then known simply as Mateete Secondary School. Under the gentle but determined guidance of the late Madam Namatovu Evelyne, its pioneer headteacher, the school opened its doors to just thirty hopeful learners — thirty seeds planted in the soil of a new dream.
Those early days were not without storms. The school faced trials that tested its roots — scarcity of resources, limited classrooms, and the constant struggle to build from almost nothing. Yet, like a sapling reaching for sunlight, Mateete grew stronger with each challenge, nourished by the dedication of teachers and the resilience of its students.
Today, that small seed has blossomed into a thriving institution under the stewardship of Mr. Ssendagire Hamuza, its current headteacher. The journey from thirty students to a vibrant community stands as a living testament to perseverance, vision, and the unyielding spirit of growth.

Projects done this year
The Government of Uganda, through its continued commitment to improving learning environments and promoting the health and well-being of students, has initiated a project for the construction of two modern pit latrines at Mateete Comprehensive Seed Secondary School. This project aims to address the growing sanitation needs of the school and ensure that students and staff have access to safe, hygienic, and reliable sanitation facilities. The project includes the construction of two separate pit latrine blocks, each designed to meet recommended standards for school sanitation. The facilities will be well-ventilated, durable, and constructed with environmentally safe materials. Each block will feature multiple stances, handwashing stations, proper drainage, and privacy-enhancing features to ensure comfort and dignity, especially for the girl-child. This initiative reflects the government’s broader objective of enhancing school infrastructure and creating conducive learning environments in rural and semi-urban communities. Beyond improving sanitation, the project is expected to reduce health-related absences, promote better hygiene practices, and support the overall academic performance of learners. Upon completion, the new pit latrines will greatly benefit both the current and future student population, reinforcing the government’s commitment to quality education and improved school facilities.
Reliable electricity is essential for the smooth running of academic and administrative activities at Mateete Comprehensive Seed Secondary School. However, frequent power outages have often disrupted lessons, computer studies, examinations, and office operations. In order to ensure continuity of learning and administrative efficiency, the school proposed the purchase of a standby generator. This project aims to provide a stable and reliable source of power that will support classrooms, laboratories, the computer room, and staff offices during times of power interruption. The generator will also enhance security by ensuring outdoor and corridor lighting remains functional at night.
Mateete Comprehensive Seed Secondary School is proud to announce the successful completion and official opening of its new computer room, a major milestone in the school’s ongoing effort to promote digital literacy and modern learning. This development marks a significant step toward equipping students with the technological skills necessary for academic growth and future career paths. The newly opened computer room is fully furnished with modern computers, reliable electrical installations, proper ventilation, and comfortable seating to support an effective and safe learning environment. The facility has been equipped with essential educational software and internet access, enabling students to conduct research, complete assignments, and engage in interactive ICT lessons. Since its opening, the computer room has already begun to enhance teaching and learning across all classes. Students now have access to hands-on ICT training, while teachers benefit from improved tools for delivering technology-supported lessons. The facility also supports school-wide initiatives such as digital competitions, online learning activities, and research projects. The opening of this computer room demonstrates the school’s strong commitment to integrating technology into education and providing learners with opportunities that prepare them for the digital age. It stands as a valuable resource that will continue to benefit both current and future students.
